Online Gambling Debts

Online gambling is everywhere and accessible to everyone, young or old, rich or poor, a click of the mouse, a credit card and let the games begin. For the majority it is purely entertainment, a fun diversion with an adrenaline rush that is easier and safer than say, bungee jumping.

But, for the player that finds him or herself steeped in debt, depressed, anxious and stressed bungee jumping blindfolded, without a cord sounds good. As absurd as that statement is, it’s a sad fact; real people think thoughts like that everyday.

Online gambling debt is becoming an epidemic. Desperate financial times have led to hasty decisions and a lot of “easy money” alternatives. The euphoria of winning for some takes hold and replaces reality with the bravado mantra of “I am gifted, I can win all the time” or “this is so easy, I can make more in a day than working all year.” These false platitudes lead to the addictive behavior that for some can become a way of life and often with tragic consequences.

You will know quickly if your online gambling debt is a once in a life time mistake and foolish decision. The wake up call will come long before you put in jeopardy or lose your family, job, and friends. The debt itself will be managed and paid off and the self reprimand will be stiffer and more restrictive than anything anyone else could impose. But, the biggest statement will be that you walk away, never again will the urge overtake you.

For those that are sure their winning streak will return, that think nothing of getting extended lines of credit, a second mortgage, tapping their children’s college fund, lying, cheating, missing work and social engagements, spending every waking moment online and ignoring everything else; you are an addict and you are in desperate need of help. Like other addictions you have to admit you have a problem and in order to that you have to hit rock bottom. If you think you are not there yet, that this is a good marker for you, think again. The moment you spent more than you had, the first time you lied, the first time you reasoned out a rational for losing; you not only hit rock bottom, you moved in and set up a whole new life.

For the addict, regardless of the drug and yes gambling is a drug, serious help is needed. First, call someone you can trust and tell them everything. Next, find a good debt counselor and have them refer you to a support group. Finally, stay away from all computers and devices that are gateways to online gambling. You might have to forgo these things for ever, but, it is a small price to pay to get your life back.

Bottom line, there is no quick fix; just hard work and firm resolve to never gamble again. It will probably take years to get out of debt, but, at least those years will yield something worth more than any amount of money; your life.

If you have a commercial mortgage and are suffering from repayments then consult the best remortgage adviser to seek further help.
