Debt Management UK

Debt management companies in the UK are very similar to the ones in the United States. The main difference being that the ones in the UK offer services specifically for residents of England or Wales. The services are also confidential, this is extremely important as debt isn’t a definition of a person. Too often people define themselves and others by financial worth. (This in my opinion is detrimental to individual self worth, which directly affects self confidence and self respect. Outwardly then an individuals home life and work are negatively affected and on it goes).

A stellar debt management company keeps the confidence of its clients and at the same time makes it clear that there is no shame or embarrassment for being in debt. Also, many offer counseling services or refer clients to counselors or classes to assist in managing expenses, setting a budget and setting goals for a secure financial future. If the company you choose doesn’t have these services, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them, that would be foolish, simply query them and they will make information available to you. Of course there are the core services which are the determining factors for selection. These must be looked at closely.

Core services:

What are the fees related to your circumstances?
Do they charge by the amount of debt?
Do they have a successful track record of negotiations with creditors?
How much will your monthly payment be and for how long?
Are the savings significant enough to help you maintain other obligations?
Will they notify you as offers are made to and accepted by creditors?
Will the company post all settled accounts to your credit report?
Will collections stop calling me? Can they call me at work?
Does they have a firm policy to stop collectors from harassment?

The answers to these questions are extremely important. Make sure you understand everything before you contract. There is one thing that is universal and requires a firm resolve from you; NO MORE CREDIT CARDS, zip, zero, never again. Think about this, why do all this work to get out of debt only to do it again? Eventually you could have one, for emergencies, (no a sale on cell phones doesn’t count), keep it at home, in a desk drawer. Not in your wallet or purse, or in the glove box of you’re your car. No your best friend can’t hold it for you either.

Also, make sure it is a debit card, that’s right, attach it to your bank account, then you will really only use it for emergencies. Adopt the philosophy of wanting what you have, not needing what you want. Bottom line; help is available, be smart and change your situation now and set a course for a positive future.
